For the last five years, Athens, GA-based photographer, artist and writer Rinne Allen has documented various harvests in her native Southern United States. Her Harvest project examines the different ways nature sustains us through its seasonal yield of ingredients: for our food, our shelter, or for our inspiration. Photo essays from her project are currently running online at the New York Times T Magazine. Join us in the Boiler Room as Rinne shares the people and the stories behind the harvests she chronicles. Just a few examples from her journeys: Organic Cotton project with Alabama Chanin and Billy Reid, Bullsbay Saltworks in South Carolina, the sculpture of Patrick Dougherty of North Carolina and the Field Pea Harvest and homemade pea sheller with Red Mule Grits and Chef Hugh Acheson from Georgia. And that’s just skimming the surface. See Rinne’s work, hear her stories, and find your harvest in the south.
