In Mexico State, Carla works with artisans to create modern rebozos. This type of weave—essentially a Mexican form of ikat—is the work of many hands: the whole family will help dye the threads, while the men weave and the women finish the cloths. Mexico state is also the home of an extremely intricate form of wood carving, typically employed to create molinillo, which is used to prepare hot chocolate, atole and champurrado. Working with Carla, wood carvers create bracelets and bag handles.
