Design Series 3: Throwing Light

November 6, 2015  January 3, 2016

Every year our Heath Clay Studio explores a single idea over the course of 12 months and shares not just the outcome, but the entire process with you. Design Series 1: Between Hand and Machine explored the candleholder, Design Series 2: Between Form and Function studied the multi-stem vase. In 2015, we explored lighting.

See how we faced the challenge to create table lamps with forms as beautiful as the light they produce. Come revel in the results of a year’s worth of exploration, boundary stretching, head scratching, delicious epiphanies, and quiet joys. Take home a piece of the creativity and exploration. Be a part of Design Series 3.

Heath Clay Studio's Design Series

Design isn’t an event, it’s a process, and the journey is often just as fascinating as the result, particularly when it comes to the work of Tung Chiang and the Heath Clay Studio. In the Design Series, Tung goes deep on one kind of object over the course of a year. At the end of the year, he shares with the community not only the final works, but also the conception, exploration and prototyping phases as well. Design Series 1: Between Hand and Machine, journeyed through the creation of a new Heath candleholder. In Design Series 2: Between Form and Function, Tung and the Clay Studio explored the world of the multi-stem vase, creating over 150 different pieces that ran the gamut from variations on tradition to explorations of the modern. Design Series 3: Throwing Light revealed our explorations into lighting. We’ve created table lamps as beautiful as the light they provide. Design Series 4: Alchemy takes Heath’s enduring respect for and appreciation of glaze to new levels, available beginning November 4 at Heath SF and LA.
